Nathula Pass

 

Perched amidst high mountains, this was once part of the historic pathways of the Silk Route, which made its way from Lhasa in Tibet to the fertile plains of Bengal. The winding roads from Gangtok to the Nathula Highway are a breathtakingly beautiful sight to behold. Flanked by mountains on one side and pristine blue waters on the other, this sight is indeed fascinating. The Nathula Pass in itself is a delight, with snow finding its way as far as the eye can see. The endless carpet of shimmering snow is sure to bring out the snowman sculptor in you!

Tsomgo lake(Changu Lake)

 

Tsomgo Lake, also known as Changu Lake, is a glacial lake in Sikkim that is located at an altitude of 12,310 feet. The name Tsomgo means ‘source of water’. This lake remains frozen during the winters and the ever-changing colours on the surface of the lake hold special spiritual meaning for the local Sikkimese people and Buddhist monks, who foretell after studying the changing colours of the lake. The famed red panda of Gangtok, as well as other rare wildlife, can be seen near the lake towards the end of the winter.

Rumtek Monastery

 

Rumtek Monastery, also known as Dharmachakra Centre, is a prime tourist attraction and one of the most vibrant and grandest places in Sikkim. A perfect replica of Tsurphu and an architectural wonder, this is the historical seat of the third-highest monk in Tibetan Buddhism, named Karmapa Lama. Renowned for being Sikkim’s largest monastery, this shrine is well known for its Golden Stupa comprising of relics of the 16th Karmapa.

Ranka Monastery

 

One of the few monasteries to be completely open to visitors, this is another beautiful monastery located in Sikkim. What catches the visitor’s eye is the monastery’s apex, carved with parasols, finials and pagoda roofs over a vast courtyard. A gigantic statue of Lord Buddha, with a height of five meters, sits at the end of the prayer hall where monks sit in rows reading their prayer books. The walls of the hall display hand paintings with thangkas hanging from them.

Hanuman Tok

 

A Hindu temple in the land of monasteries dedicated to the God of Wisdom, Strength, Courage, Devotion and Self-Discipline is maintained by the Indian Army. This temple is a beautiful one with a dramatic view of the entire Sikkim Valley.

Tashi View Point

 

Soak up some sun, gaze out at the valleys, or grab a cup of warm tea as you soak in the peaceful beauty of the Himalayas at Tashi. This beautiful viewpoint is an unmissable experience for first-time visitors. Noted as the viewpoint that gives breathtaking sights of Mt. Khangchendzonga and Mt. Siniolchu on clear days, as well as the colourful villages of North Sikkim, was built by the late King of Sikkim, Tashi Namgyal, after whom the place has been named.

Baba Mandir

 

Situated amidst Nathula and Jelepa pass, Baba Mandir is also known as Baba Harbhajan Singh Temple. This temple was made for the war hero of Nathu-La Pass, Baba Harbhajan Singh, who was an Indian Soldier who was martyred on duty in 1968.

Gangtok Ropeway

A massive stupa in Sikkim built by a teacher of the 14th Dalai Lama, Trulshik Rinpoche, this is one of the finest monasteries of Sikkim. The Stupa is located near Tibetology Institute and Gangtok Centre, Gangtok.
